We’re looking for an experienced, hands‑on Duty Manager to lead day‑to‑day operations across Beerenberg’s Hospitality & Retail Centre.  This is a pivotal on‑floor leadership role for someone who thrives in fast‑paced environments, values great service and understands that the best days run smoothly because someone is quietly making it happen.  Supporting café, retail, and kitchen teams every shift, you’ll balance exceptional guest experiences with strong systems and seamless operations.

  • You’ll be the calm at the centre of the shift, leading daily operations across café and retail to ensure seamless service and memorable guest experiences, no matter how busy it gets.
  • You’ll be the go‑to, on‑floor leader, guiding café, retail, and service teams through peak periods with confidence, clarity, and purpose.
  • You’ll champion your teams, supporting staffing, rostering, breaks, coverage, and ongoing development to keep people engaged and performing at their best.
  • You’ll be the bridge between Front and Back of House, working closely with kitchen leadership and café teams to keep service flowing, food quality high, and communication clear.
  • You’ll keep a savvy eye on the numbers behind the scenes, managing stock levels, minimising waste, and maintaining strong stock control practices while making commercially sound decisions that support strong performance without compromising the guest experience.
  • You’ll keep standards sharp, ensuring retail presentation, coffee service, workplace safety, and compliance are consistently delivered to a high standard.
  • You’ll support operational excellence, collaborating across departments, driving continuous improvement, and stepping in for the Operations Manager when required with the support of a collaborative leadership team to keep everything moving smoothly.

Now, for your own ingredients list. You’ll be the right person for this role if you:

 

  • Bring a formal qualification in Hospitality or Retail Management, or equivalent real‑world experience across both.
  • Have three (3) or more years’ experience leading teams in fast‑paced, high‑volume hospitality and/or retail environments.
  • Lead confidently on the floor, managing people, pace, and performance when it matters most.  Understand how a great service comes together, with a strong working knowledge of commercial kitchen operations and effective Front‑ and Back‑of‑House collaboration.
  • You’ll be available to work across a 7-day roster, including weekends and public holidays during our busiest periods, with the bonus of no late nights.
  • Work comfortably alongside baristas and café leaders, backed by a solid understanding of coffee culture, service standards, and peak‑period workflows.
  • Bring a sharp retail lens, with experience in visual merchandising, product presentation, customer flow, and seasonal displays.
  • Balance exceptional guest experiences with commercial outcomes, including working within budgets and operational realities, without compromising either.
  • Stay calm under pressure, making confident, practical decisions when service is busy and expectations are high.
  • Lead with a collaborative, consistent style that drives accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
  • Hold a current RSA and recognised food handling qualifications, with experience in tourism or regional food and beverage environments a welcome bonus.
